App-V 4.6 Public Beta is now available on

For details and access information, please check out the MDOP Blog post on the topic:

This will be the first release of App-V to support both x86 and x64 on the Client and Sequencer platform. This will be welcome news to the Terminal Server community as there will also be an x64 client for Terminal Services coming as well!

To quote the product team:

“This will be the first version of App-V to support both x64 and x86 Windows platforms.  The primary focus of this release is to enable App-V to take advantage of 64-bit Windows platforms including Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2.  We’ve also made some improvements in the App-V Sequencer such as simplifying the workflow for creating virtual applications and adding the ability to sequence true 64-bit applications, a first to market!  For customers running Windows XP or Windows Vista, you can also use App-V 4.6 Beta and take advantage of the support for Office 2010, 64-bit platform support and additional features in the release.”

As far as understanding the sequencing matrix for both 32-bit and 64-bit virtual applications, please refer to the following table:

The Virtual PC team has announced the release candidate for Virtual PC 7 and XPM (Windows XP Mode on Windows 7)

This feature allows you to run an application inside a Windows XP virtual machine and have the application seamless integrate with the Windows 7 desktop from an application publishing standpoint.

This does not require MED-V although a future release of MED-V will allow for extended management capabilities and integration for XPM.
